1. Go to the theatre

Paper City Phoenix is an explosive comedy directed by Rebecca Willingham about the consequences of being always connected. Find out what happens when the universe hits the delete key. (Profiles Theatre Alley Stage, 4147 N Broadway, 8pm, $20)

2. Think outside the box

Paint was the dominant medium in the abstract expressionist movement until Aaron Siskind picked up a camera and began sharing his photos. Abstract photography gained traction with his images of chipped peeling walls and carefully framed landscapes. (Art Institute of Chicago, 111 S Michigan Ave, 10:30am, $14-$25)

3. Laugh off Monday blues

Grab a beer at Gman Tavern and watch Best Night Ever, a local and touring stand-up comedy show. Even better—the show is completely free. (Gman Tavern, 3740 N Clark St, 8:30pm)
