1. Turn home makeover dreams into reality
It's time to get off your couch and stop secretly watching marathons of House Hunters International and Property Brothers. This year's Antiques, Garden & Design Show has a beautiful garden display and plenty of gardening experts to answer all your questions. (Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake-Cook Road, 6pm, $18-$22)
The Smashing Pumpkins and Liz Phair pair up for a tour that'll bring back your nostalgia for the heyday of alternative rock. The show marks Phair's first time touring since 2010 and you can expect to hear subtle acoustic and electronic versions of Smashing Pumpkins' hits. (Civic Opera House, 20 N Wacker Dr, 7:30pm, $49.50-$75)
The Intuit presents a display of Lee Godie's signature self-portraits, taken at Chicago bus station photo booths in the '60s and '70s. This self-taught artist began selling her embellished pictures on the steps of the Art Institute—this posthumous exhibit collects some of her most vibrant work. (Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art, 756 N Milwaukee Ave, $5 suggested donation)
