The three best things to do today in Chicago

1. Don't sleep

Stoner metal gods (and namesakes of a burger at Kuma's Corner) Sleep take over Thalia Hall today and tomorrow for a two-night engagement, unleashing heavy riffs in the historic venue. Local doom metal outfit Bongripper opens the show tonight and Skull kicks things off tomorrow. (Thalia Hall, 1807 S Allport St, 8pm. $25, balcony $30)

2. Make the switch

Le Switch is a romantic comedy that expands the genre's formula to include a relationship between gay men and, like all good romances, it picks at universal flaws in love and relationships, but pulls it off quite well with characters played by a lovely cast. (Theater Wit, 1229 W Belmont Ave, 7:30pm. $35, students and seniors $20)

3. Sit with Satchmo

Learn the private history of Louis Armstrong in Satchmo at the Waldorf, a biographical adaptation for the stage. Barry Shabaka Henley's performance as Armstrong is riveting, handily inhabiting Armstrong's famous rasp, but this one-man play won't be around for long. Catch it while you can. (Court Theatre, 5535 S Ellis Ave, 7:30pm. $48–$68)
