1. Learn improv from a master

George Wendt is known for his regular role on Cheers, but he got his start at Second City in Chicago, performed on Broadway and has even appeared on shows like Portlandia. As part of the Chicago Humanities Festival, join Wendt and fellow improviser David Pasquesi for a lesson in Chicago-style improv. (Fine Arts Building Studebaker Theater, 410 S Michigan Ave, Sat 4pm. $10–$15)

2. Jam at a concert

Southern rock band White Denim brings its energetic songs to Chicago’s stage with Sam Cohen as the opening act. Get ready to get down—the most recent album was recorded with Kings of Leon producer Ethan Johns and has more of a jam band groove. (Thalia Hall, 1807 S Allport St, Sat 8pm. $22–$30)

3. Craft a DIY mini mag

Sift through quirky handmade paper zines from more than 200 zinesters across the country. Find artsy booklets about everything from conspiracy theories to the solar system.... and even old socks. (Chicago Journeymen Plumbers Union Hall, 1340 W Washington Blvd, Sat 11am. Free)

4. Head over to Draft Town

Most football fans won’t be able to get a seat in the Auditorium Theatre for the NFL Draft, but they will be able to celebrate at Draft Town in Grant Park. Enter flag football competitions, jump in a skydive simulator and snag your team’s exclusive merchandise. (Grant Park, 337 E Randolph St, Thurs–Fri 6am–11pm. Free)

5. Benefit your community

The Garden of Eve party will celebrate Chicago’s LBTQ women, trans people and allies and raise funds for Howard Brown Health. Celebrate in a space decorated with “avant-garden” décor, and enjoy delicious cocktails, plenty of appetizers, an Early to Bed pop-up shop and music a la Slo ‘Mo. (Ignite Glass Studios, 401 N Armour St, Fri 6pm. $100–$200)
