An Off Broadway show that mashes up The Brady Bunch and The Partridge Family with allusions to a dozen Shakespeare plays is on its way to the Mercury Theater this fall.
The Bardy Bunch: The War of the Families Partridge and Brady, which premiered at the New York International Fringe Festival in 2011 and had an Off Broadway run in 2014, sets the two TV families against one another in a parody of Shakespearean proportions. Wedged in among the tragedy and woe are 15 musical numbers featured on the original TV shows, including “I Think I Love You” and “It's a Sunshine Day.”
Written by Stephen Garvey and directed by Jay Stern, the spoof will cast locally for its Chicago staging, which is set to play the Mercury September 15–November 27.
