The World's 50 Best Bars were announced in London yesterday, and the Aviary, the only Chicago bar to make the list, came in at #29. This is the seventh year for the list, which is voted on by industry professionals.
The Aviary fell 16 spots this year after debuting on the list at no. 13 last year. 2014 was the first year that Chicago bars appeared on the list, which is heavily dominated by European bars—London has five bars in the top 10, including no. 1, Artesian, a hotel bar that came in first for four straight years. New York's Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog (sister bar to Chicago's GreenRiver) came in second again, while Employees Only also made the top five. Broken Shaker, which opened a Chicago location earlier this year, came in at No. 14 for its Miami Beach location.
Three Dots and a Dash made the World's 50 Best list last year at no. 27, but was off entirely this year—it's not a huge surprise, given that Paul McGee departed the tiki bar in late 2014 to open Lost Lake in early 2015.
Overall, the U.S. had 14 bars on the list, down two from last year.
