Last month, the Shedd Aquarium introduced its latest rescued sea otter pup to the public, an adorable 10-week-old fuzz ball that was picked up in Carmel Beach, California. Like every animal that takes up residence at the institution, the sea otter was given a very generic name upon its arrival: Pup 719. The aquarium asked its members to vote on a more permanent (and less robotic) name for the cute creature, and today announced that the otter will henceforth be known as Ellie.
Now Ellie is 14 weeks old and is slowly being introduced to her habitat at the Shedd, where she can swim to her heart's delight and play with stackable cups and balls. Take a look at one of Ellie's first dives into her new home below and start looking forward to seeing her (and the equally darling sea otter Luna) during your next visit to the aquarium.
