The Second City and Lyric Opera will reteam in October for a satirical primer on German composer Richard Wagner’s epic Ring Cycle, timed to the Lyric’s kickoff of a five-season commitment to a new staging of the four-opera saga. Longer! Louder! Wagner! The Second City Wagner Companion, an 80-minute look at Wagner’s work both in its own time and in context today, will be staged in the Civic Opera House’s William Mason Rehearsal Hall for six performances, October 27–30.

As with 2013’s The Second City Guide to the Opera, the new show will pair Second City actors and improvisers with classically trained Lyric singers. It’s penned by Tim Sniffen, co-writer of The Second City Guide to the Opera and also author of another Second City Theatricals collaboration, Death of a Streetcar Named Virginia Woolf: A Parody, now running at Writers Theatre. Tickets to Longer! Louder! Wagner!, $35–$65, are on sale now at lyricopera.org/secondcity.
