The first snow of the winter hit Chicago pretty hard this weekend. Dubbed "Winter Storm Bella"—Spanish for beautiful—the snowfall cancelled flights, gummed up traffic and left the city caked in the white stuff.
The snow started on Friday evening with big, fluffy flakes that melted as soon as they hit the ground, leaving sidewalks and roads covered in a goopy slush. Throughout Saturday afternoon, the snow kept falling, accumulating on trees, cars and alleys—transforming the city into a more conventional winter wonderland. It was a sudden start to the winter season, but Chicagoans (ever a resilient bunch) weren't phased.
Here are some of the best photos taken across town of the weekend's blizzard.
