Logan Square brewery Off Color has long offered some of the most creative beers and one of the best brewery tours in the city, but visitors have never been able to sit down and enjoy a pint of Apex Predator or Troublesome in the same room where it's being made.
According to a report from Crain's, Off Color is planning to open a taproom at 1460 N Kingsbury Street in Lincoln Park, just down the street from Whole Foods and the iO Theater. In addition to a bar that will accommodate up to 150, the new facility will also house a small brewery where Off Color will produce some of its more complex (and time-consuming) beers, including barrel-aged and sour varieties. The report goes on to confirm that the new facility has applied for a license to sell packaged beer, allowing it to host the special bottle releases that have drawn long lines of customers to Off Color's small Logan Square location.
Off Color co-owner John Laffler told Crain's that the new taproom and brewery could open "as early as summer 2017." Of course, just like any new bar or brewery navigating the city's liquor laws and associated red tape, delays are almost a certainty. In the meantime, you can always visit Off Color's Logan Square outpost (which will continue to produce the majority of the brewery's output) and grab a fresh bottle of Dino S'mores from the bottle shop to enjoy in the comfort of your own home.
