Back in December, an extra-alarm fire gutted the 53 year old Nuevo León restaurant. Since then, the restaurant's owners—the Gutierrez family—has opened a new restaurant (Cantón Regio) and announced plans to rebuild a smaller Nuevo León in the building next door within the next year. Now it looks like the buildings which formerly housed the popular restaurant are coming down.

In a Facebook post, Nuevo León announced the beginning of the demolition yesterday, "We demolish what was left behind, now there is no choice but forward. It'll take some time, but looking forward to serving our community, friends & family as soon as we can, making new memories."

DNAinfo previously reported that the cause of the fire may have been faulty electrical wiring igniting in a crawl space. The Gutierrez family has not announced what might take the place of the old Nuevo León location.
