Pride Films and Plays has named Nelson Rodriguez as the company’s artistic director. An actor and writer who has performed in PF&P’s productions of The Children’s Hour, Some Men and The Boys Upstairs, Rodriguez earned a Jeff Award nomination for solo performance earlier this year for Men on the Verge of a His-Panic Breakdown. Rodriguez has also overseen the film side of PF&P’s programming since 2013.
Last month, Pride Films and Plays announced it was taking over the lease of the two former Profiles Theatre spaces in Buena Park. Rodriguez, an ensemble member with the LGBTQ-focused company since 2012, becomes the six-year-old organization’s first artistic director; he’ll be in position to shape PF&P’s work as it moves into those venues in 2017.
