The animal caregivers at the Lincoln Park Zoo are not throwing away their shot to get in on the massive popularity of Hamilton. With the smash-hit Broadway musical set to clean up at the Tony Awards this Sunday, the zoo said on Facebook and Twitter over the weekend that its new baby Bactrian camel, born last month, has been named Alexander Camelton.
The new arrival was born young, scrappy and hungry on May 9, weighing in at 81 pounds and 4 feet tall, and has been visible in the zoo’s Antelope and Zebra Area since May 18. It’s not clear if Alexander Camelton is official or just a nickname; Lincoln Park Zoo often asks for help from the public in naming newborns, as it did last month with snow monkey Otaru.
A new block of tickets for the Broadway production of Hamilton has just been announced to go on sale Sunday at 7pm CDT, coinciding with the start of the Tony Awards broadcast (with a presale for American Express platinum cardholders starting tomorrow). An onsale date for individual tickets for the Chicago company of Hamilton, set to begin performances September 27 at The PrivateBank Theatre, remains to be announced.
