Some of you may have heard that summer in Chicago offers up more than just frozen drinks, hot dogs and beaches (wait, it does?). For those of us considering doing something somewhat healthy before settling in and (maybe) packing on that winter weight, we’ve found some ways to exercise in July and August that are actually fun. If running is your sport or you’re interested in some good-natured competition, it’s not too late to sign up for these great Chicago 5Ks.

The Glo Run. This run is kind of ridiculous, but in the very best way. Glow sticks, black lights and ‘80s music—hell, I might even be enticed to be athletic for one night with this one. Soldier Field, July 16, 8:55pm. $60

Burgers and Beer 5K. More than seven years after Universal Sole’s Lakeview store started this event, people are still finding a reason to run—two reasons, really: burgers and beer. This run also benefits Girls in the Game, an organization that aims to give girls confidence through fun and active sports, health and leadership programs. Soldier Field, July 18, 7pm. $40

Imerman Angels Brunch Run 5K & Walk. Walk or run the chip-timed 5K course in honor of a loved one who has battled cancer or just support the cause. If you register soon (before July 20) and raise at least $100, you’ll get an Imerman Angels picnic blanket  (while supplies last)—just in time for brunch afterward. Montrose Harbor, July 23, 8;30am. $50 for adults, $15 for children 5–12

PAWS Chicago’s 16th annual 5K Walk/Run. Run for the love of puppies when you sign up to participate in this race to help homeless, sick and injured pets at PAWS Chicago. Pets and kids are welcome, and everyone can enjoy the puppy playpen, plus prizes, food and drinks. Montrose Harbor, July 24, 9am. $40, $20 for kids

Humboldt Park 5K. Race through the beautiful, sprawling Humboldt Park and see some of the neighborhood’s top attractions, including the lagoon, boathouse and a myriad of statues. Humboldt Park, August 14, 8:30am. $14.99–$44.99

Rock the Night 5K. Back at Soldier Field, this evening 5K runs along the lakefront path and around McCormick Place before a big post-race party (details not yet announced). Soldier Field, August 26, 7pm. $49–$54

Bubbles ME 5K Fun Run. So. Many. Bubbles. It doesn’t matter how old you are, you still love bubbles. This family-friendly event encourages you to hit the race course and get covered in bright bubbles along the way. Burnham Park, August 28, 9am. $10–$60
