The well-loved Logan Square staple Fat Rice is doing things differently—with a new menu, bakery and a bar that's set to open this week.
A chef's tasting menu is now available Tuesday through Saturday, with set dinners called the Voyage and the Venture for parties of six or more.
The Voyage has set offerings and features chef Abraham Conlon's signature dishes like Arroz Gordo. The Venture will change daily with chef's choices. Fat Rice will also offer Sunday seafood specials, with traditional breakfast and lunch dishes from Macau, Malacca and Singapore.
Just down the street from Fat Rice at 2951 W Diversey, The Bakery at Fat Rice began offering sweet and savory Chinese bakery favorites this week, from coconut tarts and Portuguese cheese tarts to curry chicken buns and even a bun that's a nod to the Chicago classic hot dog. Hong Kong–style milk tea and tea selections from Rare Tea Cellar will be available. In the evening, the bakery will become a small snacks bar with Iberian-style crudos and confits along with fresh bread.
The Ladies' Room opens this Friday next door to the bakery at 2953 W Diversey, decorated with Chinese antiques from partner Adrienne Lo's grandparents' house. Seating will be limited, and the cocktail menu will include a few large format options alongside classics and a few house cocktails with vintage spirits and house-made bitters. Reservations are required and can be made by calling Fat Rice at 773-661-9170.
