Recorded temperatures in Chicago hit 94 degrees this afternoon, making Friday the third day running for record heat for this time of year. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday temperatures each surpassed the previous record highs for September 20, 21 and 22, respectively, according to the National Weather Service.
As of 12:40pm CDT, #Chicago-O'Hare reached 93°, breaking previous record high for 9/22 from 1956. 3rd straight record high for CHI. #ilwx

NWS meteorologist Mark Ratzer told DNAinfo that this weekend’s temperatures are likely to reach within a couple of degrees of the record high of 91 degrees for each day.
The late-season heat wave comes after a relatively mild summer in the city. The last time Chicago saw a streak of three 90-degree-plus days this late in the year was in 1971; if the thermometer breaks 90 again on Saturday, it would be the first such four-day stretch after September 20 ever recorded.
There are a few more unseasonably hot days in the forecast before things return to a more autumn-like high of 72 on Wednesday.
