The mural on the front of the Violet Hour can often be described as interesting or whimsical, but this month it's taking on a more serious tone in response to recent gun violence. The piece, done by artist Christophe Gausparro, expresses his views on "Chicago's current gun violence problem."
Gausparro has spent the last few years searching thrift stores and collecting toy guns to be integrated into his artwork, which is a nod to his idea that removing the gun as a play object will help reduce gun violence at a foundational level. The new mural depicts deconstructed guns as forests of trees.
The mural will be on display until early August.
