Steppenwolf Theatre Company has its full cast for this summer’s Chicago premiere of Between Riverside and Crazy.
As previously announced, the 2015 Pulitzer Prize winner by Stephen Adly Guirgis will feature Eamonn Walker as retired cop Pops and Steppenwolf ensemble member James Vincent Meredith as his son, Junior, both fighting to keep their rent-stabilized Manhattan apartment. (In reality, Chicago Fire star Walker is less than 10 years older than Meredith. Acting!) Ensemble member Tim Hopper will play Lieutenant Caro.
Newly announced to join them are Audrey Francis as Detective O’Connor, Victor Almanzar as Oswaldo, Elena Flores as Lulu and Lily Mojekwu as Church Lady. Steppenwolf’s production, directed by Yasen Peyankov, runs June 23–August 21.
In other Guirgis news, Eclipse Theatre Company opens a revival of his drama Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train this weekend at the Athenaeum Theatre, the first production in a three-play season of the playwright’s work. Eclipse’s production, staged by Anish Jethmalani, stars Johnathan Nieves, D’Wayne Taylor, Zach Bloomfield, Elizabeth Birnkrant and Christian Castro and runs through May 22. Guirgis’s Our Lady of 121st Street and The Little Flower of East Orange will follow in July and November, respectively.
