Angela Ingersoll will play the actor and singer Judy Garland in the Chicago premiere of End of the Rainbow, Porchlight Music Theatre has announced.
Set in 1968, the piece by British playwright Peter Quilter traces Garland’s final comeback attempt. It had a Broadway run in 2012 following success in the UK and an American premiere at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis. The play includes performances of some of Garland’s best-known songs, including “Over the Rainbow.”
Ingersoll is currently playing Hedy LaRue in Marriott Theatre’s revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. She’ll be joined in End of the Rainbow by Jon Steinhagen as Garland’s accompanist and Kyle Hatley as Mickey Deans, her fifth and last husband; Felipe Jorge plays a trio of smaller roles. Porchlight artistic director Michael Weber will helm the production, set to run November 4–December 4 at Stage 773.
