This morning, both 42 Grams chef Jake Bickelhaupt and Alinea earned yet more accolades. Bickelhaupt was named one of Food & Wine's Best New Chefs, an annual award that honors chefs who have been in charge of a kitchen for five years or fewer. Bickelhaupt has been running 42 Grams for just over a year, and he'll be featured in the July issue of Food & Wine, and will attend the Aspen Food & Wine Classic. Elsewhere in the Midwest, chef Jonathan Brooks of Milktooth in Indianapolis was also named a Best New Chef.
In other awards, Elite Traveler magazine has named Alinea the best restaurant in the world for the fourth straight year, and Next Restaurant came in at No. 47. They're the only two Chicago restaurants on the list, although there are nine New York restaurants, and one South Carolina spot, Husk.
