A Red Orchid Theatre will stage the Chicago premiere of David Adjmi’s 3C, a darkly satiric riff on the sitcom Three’s Company that was tied up in copyright litigation by the TV show’s rights holders for three years following its 2012 premiere at New York City’s Rattlestick Playwrights Theater.
Adjmi’s play, which was eventually ruled fair use by a federal judge, will be the final production of A Red Orchid’s 2016–17 season, running April 20–June 4, 2017. Ensemble member Shade Murray will direct a cast that will include ensemble members Jennifer Engstrom and Larry Grimm.
Also on tap for the three-play season, announced this afternoon, are Harold Pinter’s ominous drama The Room, to be directed by Dado and featuring Kirsten Fitzgerald and Mierka Girten (September 29–November 13), and the Chicago premiere of Jennifer Haley’s virtual-reality parable The Nether, directed by Karen Kessler and featuring Guy Van Swearingen and Doug Vickers (January 26–March 12).
