Don't come to the Whiner Beer Co. expecting extremely bitter IPAs or hefty stouts—co-founders Brian Taylor and Ria Neri are more interested in barrel-aged Belgian-style beers and hard kombucha. Ask for a taste of Whiner's signature Le Tub (a blended barrel-aged wild saison) and you'll have an idea of just how funky the brews can get at Whiner's taproom, which is housed inside the Plant, a nonprofit net-zero energy food production space situated in an old warehouse in the Back of Yards neighborhood. Grab a seat at a table with a built-in planter while you enjoy your beer—and order a 14-inch sourdough crust pie from in-house pizzeria Le Pizza, if you're feeling peckish.
