The latest solo exhibition from local artist Bethany Collins explores contrafactum, a musical term for a songs with a similar melody that are given different lyrics. In "Cadence," Collins creates works based around the songs "The Star-Spangled Banner," "Dixie," and "Auld Lang Syne," commenting on the differing motives and agendas behind the words that oversee the melody. An audio installation contrasts 51 different versions of "Auld Lang Syne" being sung simultaneously, while a series of deep blue acrylic and charcoal panels unpack lyrics from various renditions of "The Star-Spangled Banner."
