Avondale Mural

This 100-foot stretch of Addison under the expressway is certainly not your average underpass. The mural was designed by Rafael Lopez, an artist and children’s book illustrator. Lopez’s piece is neither political nor historical—it’s simply positive, whimsical imagery that beautifies the street and neighborhood. While it’s technically in Avondale, the mural is really at the intersection of several different North Side communities, connecting and enriching all kinds of people.
