When Johnson Publishing moved out of its iconic Michigan Avenue headquarters last year, the company donated more than 15,000 items to Theater Gates' Rebuild Foundation, including periodicals, books, art and furniture. The latest exhibition at the Stony Island Arts Bank celebrates the influential publisher of Jet and Ebony magazines, displaying artifacts from its Chicago office and allowing visitors to dig into its archives. The exhibit also includes a series of contemporary works that pay tribute to the legacy of Johnson Publishing in Chicago and in African American culture.
