It’s happened again. You’ve had a busy week and completely forgot that it’s Valentine’s Day…today! Your favourite restaurants are booked out and your special someone is just waiting for the call. With nothing in mind, you turn to the internet for help. Thank goodness we’re here.

As the evening looms, here are our top picks for last minute Valentine’s Day dates in Chiang Mai that still look like you’ve planned weeks in advance. We got you, just take your pick.

An afternoon strawberry picking at the Samoeng Strawberry Festival

Get in your car (or call a Grab) and head to nearby Samoeng for an afternoon enjoying strawberries with your loved one. Sure, there’s loads of places you can go strawberry picking but as it happens, the Strawberry Festival is taking place meaning aside from fields of beautiful red ripe strawberries to pick and bite into romantically, there’s a whole load of events and activities also taking place, including a strawberry princess competition and a musical car parade. A very Thai-style afternoon sure to charm any potential partner! Alternatively, skip the event and head straight for Magic Berry Farm or Wongwan Strawberry Farm for a prime picking session.

Head to the village of Samoeng and you’ll find it near the district office. 9am-5pm.

Take your loved one to Meliá where there’s a special Feb 14 night planned that’s still open to guests. Celebrate love, friendship and fun with whoever your date is tonight – romantic or not – and enjoy breathtaking city views paired with live entertainment and signature cocktails. Who knows; you may even find someone and leave as a couple. B488 net for solo guests and B888 per couple, both of which includes a special cocktail each. Melia Chiang Mai. 6pm to late.

  • Travel

The much loved Jing Jai Market is today transformed into a Valentine’s Day special event with a handmade Valentine’s market to stroll around (bonus points for buying a few gifts for your loved one and helping the economy) and nice food offerings. However, the main show must be the makeshift open-air cinema with romantic movies playing from sunset to 10pm. There’s also a number of creative workshops to add to the fun and for those who would rather define their love as a ‘situationship’, there’s even a love counselling booth that is there to help reignite that spark. ‘Tis the season, after all. Jing Jai Market. 4-10pm.

  • Museums

For those WITHOUT a date (couples will be turned away), the Museum of Broken Relationships in Chiang Moi is, for one day only, hosting the ‘Love is in the Air… But So is Freedom’ exhibition, designed to be an anti-Valentine’s Day for those who embrace independence and singledom. Visitors arriving alone will receive free entry to explore the museum’s heartfelt collection of love and loss and all ticket holders can also join their exclusive handmade badge-making activity, creating a meaningful keepsake to mark the loveless occasion. The Museum of Broken Relationships. 10am-10pm.
