Last week, Galleries’ Nights took over Bangkok with an event that saw over 200 artists exhibit at over 100 galleries in the city.

Organised by the French embassy, this epic artistic exploration is now headed north to Chiang Mai, with a bitesize offering of 16 galleries opening their doors and hosting special exhibitions during the evenings of November 29 and 30.

In case you missed it, Galleries’ Nights in Bangkok was a resounding success, with thousands of people exploring the many galleries open at night. You can catch up on our ultimate guide to Galleries’ Nights in Bangkok here, which gives you the low-down on the event’s history and exciting activities involved.

Given Chiang Mai is a much smaller city, you can just about make it to all the galleries involved…at a push. Doors open from 5pm and close at 10pm, giving you five hours to make it around, or pick your favourite and take your time.

With fewer galleries and a more compact city layout, Chiang Mai is poised to deliver its own unique twist on the event that may see you manage to visit every venue – if you plan carefully.

Doors open from 5pm to 10pm, giving you five hours to soak in as much as you can. You can find out more information and up-to-the-minute updates via their dedicated Facebook Page, but to save you looking around online, here’s the event schedule and all you need to know in one handy place.

What’s happening Friday, November 29

Kicking off the evening is the official opening ceremony, starting at 4.30pm at the Chiang Mai University Art and Cultural Center (CMUACC), located at the bottom of Nimmanhaemin Road.

From there, hop onto one of the red truck shuttle buses (free trips at 5.30pm and 6pm) that loop through seven galleries around the city – a great palace to make friends with fellow art enthusiasts!

Alternatively, you can make your own way to the galleries of your choice – because art is all about freedom, right?

Keeping to the main city limits, Friday’s featured galleries include Gallery Seascape, Art Mai? Gallery, 31st Century Museum of Contemporary Spirit, Kalm Village, The Meeting Room Art Gallery, HEAD HIGH Second Floor and DC Collection.

Missed something? Don’t worry – the exhibits will still be on display on Saturday, although the shuttle service won’t be running.

If you get lost or need more information for Friday’s event, call CMUACC at 053 218280. They’ll make sure you don’t miss a thing.

What’s happening Saturday, November 30

Day two explores the outskirts of the city, covering gallery spaces in the Jetyod and Ping River areas.

Today, red truck shuttle services will depart from the Alliance Française de Chiang Mai at the same two times as Friday. Here you can also explore a special exhibition titled Sajja by Worasit Kileksi or find out more information about the event and the organisers who are based here for the duration.

You can also call to find out more information by dialing 053 275277 – note this is a different number from Friday!

Participating galleries on Saturday include Baan Tuek Art Gallery, Dream Graff Gallery, La Luna Gallery, Little Shelter Box, in-tangible institute, JoJo Kobe Art Gallery and Jing Jai Gallery.
