Whether you’ve got kids or you know people that have kids, the Glom Glom! Children’s Festival is an event to have on your radar. Unlike most other Children’s Day events, it breaks from the norm and offers an immersive experience for kids of all ages – this year exploring the wild and wacky world of kitchen-themed theatre.

Back for its third year running, it is set to be a day of laughter, music, creativity, and unforgettable surprises. Tickets are just B100 for kids and adults alike and will take place on Children’s Day, Saturday Jan 11, from 3-9pm at the Old Chiangmai Cultural Centre.

The event is essentially a festival for kids, with food, activities, live music and theatre all rolled into one bonanza show. Sure, if you don’t have kids, this day in the Thai calendar may not be for you, but if you have any chance to go with friends, family, nieces or nephews, then be sure there’s fun for adults too. The organisers promise performances that entertain both adult and young audiences, and there’s the Thapae East bar open for parents just in case a beer is in order.

The Tom Yum Fun Interactive Musical

Set to be the highlight of the event, the Tom Yum Fun interactive musical will take over the entire festival from 3pm onwards, featuring an eclectic array of colorful characters, silly adventures and a ton of live audience participation.

The story will follow Chef Tom Yum Fun who is desperately trying to concoct a secret soup from an ancient recipe scroll. With the help of the audience, his two sous chefs and their friends, the soup is added in hope of creating the best bowl of Tom Yum Fun ever made!

Workshops Galore

The event also features a range of workshops for all ages, perfect for keeping kids entertained while parents catch up and enjoy a few drinks. Entrance to the event is cheap but the workshops are priced individually so prepare to spend a bit of cash inside for the best experience.

Workshops include Playdough Picnic and Snap and Collage Corner where kids can create colorful playdough art and craft beautiful collages to take home; the Paint and Splash Studio where little ones are free to dive into painting with splattering techniques; Cookie Art Café where you can decorate cookies with icing and sprinkles for an edible masterpiece; and Whimsy Wax Lab where you can mix colours and create unique candles.

Roaming Performers and Costumes

In addition to all the fun, the center of the festival is home to a circus playground that’s free for all to enjoy, populated by characters from the show, magicians and other roaming performers to add to the whimsical atmosphere.

For those keen to win a prize, lucky kids in costume will also be invited to join the stage during the performance where a winner will be announced and gifted a musical prize.

No Phones and Other Rules

Although the festival itself is designed to give children the freedom to explore and play without restriction, the organisers Glom Glom Creations C., Ltd. have a strict No Phone Policy for all their events. Visitors will be required to put their phones in sealed bags for the festival to ensure a safe and unplugged experience for all in attendance.
