If you’ve always wanted to learn how to cook Japanese food (which is much more than just sushi), here’s your chance. On February 22nd, chef Tiago Penão — head of Kappo, the Cascais restaurant featured in the Michelin Guide since 2022 — is hosting a Japanese cuisine workshop at Cascais Food Lab, inside Mercado da Vila.

The session kicks off with the fundamentals of Japanese cooking, giving you insight into its core principles. Then, you’ll learn fish cutting and curing techniques to create a refined yet light cold starter. Next up: the ever-popular gyozas—get ready to roll up your sleeves and make them from scratch.

For the main course, you’ll prepare katsudon, a comforting Japanese classic. And for dessert, expect an “irresistible fusion” of Portuguese and Japanese flavours.

The workshop costs €70 and includes all recipes, lunch to taste everything you’ve made, and a certificate of participation. To sign up, email info@cascaisfoodlab.pt.

Rua Padre Moisés da Silva, 1, Cascais. 10.00-14.00. €70
