We had already told you that Lumina was making a comeback. Now, we have the dates for your calendar: after seven editions between 2012 and 2018, the light festival returns to Cascais on the nights of September 12th, 13th, and 14th 2025.

The event – which has attracted 1.5 million visitors over its seven editions and showcased 136 light installations created by over 120 national and international artists – will once again be free to enter. It invites visitors to explore different areas of the town to see interactive and sculptural artworks, videomapping installations, and live performances. In the past, the festival has illuminated places like Cascais Marina, the Citadel Fort, the bay, and Largo da Estação.

The initiative, produced and curated by the OCUBO studio with support from the Cascais City Council, was even considered by the British newspaper The Guardian as one of the 10 best light festivals in Europe. It was also awarded the EFFE label (from the European Festivals Association) in the 2015-2016 and 2017-2018 editions.

"LUMINA is a grand celebration of art that transforms Cascais into a vast stage for creativity and innovation, bringing together protagonists from the global artistic world to challenge the public to explore new perspectives, fresh viewpoints, and new ways of thinking", says Carole Purnelle, CEO of OCUBO, in a press statement. "This initiative draws inspiration from the unique beauty of the town to create an innovative opportunity for thousands of visitors to discover its charms in a completely new way. Here, the public becomes an active participant in shaping the entire experience, interacting with it and absorbing it through their own unique lens. For this new edition, light, the core of the entire experience, returns as both a theme and a metaphor for the creation of new and stunning installations with a strong visual and sensory impact".

+ Heads-up: these are the major events happening in Cascais in 2025
