It started as an exploratory step to envision the future of a neighbourhood by reducing exposure to car traffic. The success has been so great that the Cascais City Council continues to promote the initiative whenever possible. The idea is to close a street to traffic for a morning, making the public space suitable for family activities. This will happen on September 14th, from 09.00 to 13.00.
The 6th experimental event of "A Rua É Nossa" (The street is ours) will take place on Rua Rui de Sequeira, in Bairro do Rosário. Car traffic will be restricted, and families are invited to reflect on how they would like to experience their street, involving children and young people as agents of urban transformation through activities such as urban painting.
Two workshops are also planned: one on "Right to the City", which will allow participants to vote on the next street to close, and another on co-creation with cork cubes. There will also be storytelling, a playroom, traditional games, and activities promoting well-being, physical exercise, and healthy eating.
Rua Rui Sequeira (Cascais). 14 Sep, Sat 09.00-13.00. Free entry.
