Athletes eagerly awaiting the chance to compete in the Swim Grand Prix 2024 can now prepare their gear and finalize the last details, as their opportunity has arrived. Registrations are now open for what promises to be a major open water swimming festival, taking over the waters of Cascais for an entire weekend.

The event offers various crossings to choose from, allowing participants to select the course that best suits their abilities and training. The first day kicks off with the 20-kilometre crossing, the longest in mainland Portugal, starting at Doca de Belém with the Padrão dos Descobrimentos as the starting point, and finishing at Praia dos Pescadores in Cascais, crossing three municipalities. Also on the 21st of September, athletes will dive into the 10-kilometre crossing, starting from Praia da Torre in Oeiras and also ending at Praia dos Pescadores in Cascais.

On the 22nd of September, shorter distances will be swum in a new point-to-point competition format, with crossings ranging from 5 to 1 kilometre. And if you thought the Swim Grand Prix ended there, you’d be mistaken. Even the youngest participants are included in this grand event, with their own crossings in the Kids 400M & 200M races taking place on the 21st of September.

The Swim Grand Prix was nominated for Event of the Year worldwide in 2023 by the World Open Water Swimming Association (WOWSA), finishing in seventh place, and was recognized as an Event of Public Interest by the Government of Portugal. The event can also claim the title of the largest open water event in the country.
