This Wednesday, 19th of June, Brazilian music legend Chico Buarque celebrates his 80th birthday; but the party takes place on this side of the Atlantic, at Palaphita in Casa da Guia, Cascais. The eco-gastronomic lounge, closely tied to Brazilian culture, will host a special celebratory concert.
The performance will be by Bernardo Lobo, son of Edu Lobo, who collaborated with Chico Buarque on several songs over the years. There will also be a DJ set by Levy Gasparian. "Honouring Chico on his 80th birthday is a great honour and joy for me", explains Bernardo Lobo in a statement. "Chico is one of my greatest idols, an inspiration as a composer and poet. I have known him since I was a child; he recorded on my first album, and we have shared the stage. He is my musical godfather! I know his entire repertoire from all phases. For this concert at Palaphita, I have created a somewhat chronological setlist, featuring songs from various stages of his brilliant career".
Palaphita couldn't miss marking this date. After all, the restaurant's history intertwines with Chico Buarque's: the first customer at the first business managed by Palaphita's owner in Rio de Janeiro was the Rio-born artist. "We had just opened Casa dos Sabores in Gávea, and the first person to walk in was Chico Buarque. We welcomed him as a good omen. And indeed, the business was and continues to be a success to this day", concludes Mário de Andrade, owner of Palaphita.
