Born in 1988 from the hands of Frenchwoman France Ame at the iconic and now-defunct Hotel Estoril Sol, it quickly became one of the trendiest concept stores in Cascais. In 2003, it moved to a larger space in the Arcadas do Estoril, right across from the Casino gardens, where it continues to thrive alongside renowned fashion names like Etro, Alberta Ferretti, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Max Mara. Last spring, it began a new chapter in its story, spanning over three decades, by opening a new location in the Marina of Cascais, in a glass-enclosed space with a sea view on the Fashion Promenade.
“France had received an invitation to come to the Marina pre-pandemic, but she didn’t feel it was the right time. They spoke to her again now, explaining that there would be an area dedicated to fashion, and she agreed. The Marina has changed a lot; it’s no longer just about restaurants. The timing was perfect, just in time for summer”, says Anne Amorim, welcoming us amidst colourful dresses, swimsuits, and accessories beckoning for warm days.
From classics to new promises
The brands in the new store are the same as those found in Estoril, but the selection of items is quite different. "The flagship store caters primarily to regulars and loyal customers. At the Marina, we have new clients, many of whom are foreigners and younger", Anne describes.
“Here, the style is more about the sea, beach, and Riviera. It fits perfectly with the Marina”, continues the communication manager. Highlights include swimwear from Brazilian Lenny Niemeyer, leather sandals from Greek Di Gaïa, colourful patterned dresses from Borgo de Nor, and accessories from Gas Bijoux, suitable for both the beach and parties — with prices starting at 50€, proving that Espace Cannelle is not completely inaccessible. "There are pieces for various budgets", Anne assures.
Globally renowned fashion designers are joined by new brands with fresh approaches and philosophies. For instance, French label Destree and American brand SimKhai advocate for slow fashion, showcasing minimalist and intergenerational pieces. Manu Atelier, founded by two young British-Turkish women, champions sustainability with leather bags and shoes designed to last a lifetime.
"To keep a brand open for so long, you have to stay current, follow trends. These new brands appeal to a younger generation, which Espace Cannelle also aims to reach. If not, we won't survive", concludes Anne, promising that the light of the glass island and the summery joy conveyed by the pieces will endure through all seasons.
