The Grande Real Villa Itália in Cascais was named Europe’s Most Romantic Hotel at the 2025 Condé Nast Johansens Awards. The hotel won the "Best for Romance" category in a selection of the Best Hotels in Europe and the Mediterranean. Among the other contenders were the Madrigale Panoramic Lifestyle & Soulful Hotel in Italy and the Heritage Grand Perast in Montenegro.
"This is recognition for all the effort we have put into improving our offerings and the strategy of our teams to differentiate the experiences provided at each of our hotels", said Eurico Almeida, CEO of Real Hotels Group, which owns the Grande Real Villa Itália, in a statement.
The sophistication, elegance, spa, sea views evoking Italian dolce vita, and the menu at the Belvedere restaurant were some of the factors that played in favour of Grande Real Villa Itália Hotel & Spa – located in a century-old building that once served as the home of Italy's last king, Humberto II, after he was forced to leave his country and found refuge in Cascais.
