Heads-up: these are the major events happening in Cascais in 2025

From sports to music, from gastronomy to conferences, from Festas do Mar to the Christmas Village, find out everything the town will host throughout the year.

On Thursday, January 23rd, the Municipality of Cascais revived a tradition that was interrupted by the pandemic. The local government organized an event at Casino Estoril to present all the events that will shape the town’s calendar throughout the year, covering everything from sports to culture, gastronomy, and knowledge.

Many of these events have taken place in previous years, but now the dates and a series of details (including some new additions) are confirmed. Do you have your calendar ready to jot down everything?

The surfing championship has been taking place at Praia de Carcavelos on days when the waves are particularly inviting. Last year, over 30,000 people attended, while 63 million others worldwide watched the event live.

Montepio Meia Maratona
8 e 9 de Fevereiro

This marks the ninth edition of these three races, with over 9,000 participants. Athletes from 65 nationalities will compete in the Montepio Meia Maratona. Since 2017, the event has welcomed more than 40,000 athletes.

Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica

The warm-up for the new edition of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibérica will take place at the Estoril Autodrome on March 15th. After that, the race will go to the Algarve and Spain before returning to Cascais in November. There will be 26 drivers in 12 sprint races. Nuno Piteira Lopes, the vice-president of the Cascais City Council, also mentioned during the event that the municipality is working on taking control of the management of the Estoril Autodrome and that there could be news later this year. “Imagine what the Estoril Autodrome could be like if the management is in the hands of the municipality, with everything that is already happening.”

The market organized by Maria Guedes at FIARTIL will once again have editions in March, May, October, and November. The event typically attracts around 18,000 people per edition, featuring over 100 national brands. With 12 years of history, it has become a staple in the region.

Clube Naval de Cascais

The Clube Naval de Cascais hosts several events throughout the year. The 30th HM King Juan Carlos Trophy takes place from April 1st to 6th, while the Rolex TP52 World Championship will be held from June 30th to July 6th. The Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy is scheduled for July 4th to 6th, and the Cascais Vela regatta will be from August 29th to 31st.

The second edition of Cascais Ópera will take place in the spring, continuing its role as a competition to promote new talents. In 2024, there were 47 finalists from 21 countries. The first stage will take place at the Centro Cultural de Cascais.

IberCup

Youth football takes the spotlight in this competition, which last year brought together 700 teams, 22,000 participants, and generated an economic impact of six million euros.

Millennium Estoril Open

One of the big news announcements. The Millennium Estoril Open has been secured in Cascais for another three years. The organizer of the event in Portugal highlighted the “difficult negotiations” to secure this important tournament for the international circuit, which will once again feature some of the best tennis players in the world, including top Portuguese athletes. In the past, it attracted over 43,000 spectators and has become a family-friendly event for those in the Cascais region. The event will take place at the Estoril Tennis Club.

Riders from various nationalities will gather at the Hipódromo Manuel Possolo for the seventh edition of the Cascais Jumping Trophy.

The electronic music festival, which has been hosted at Parque Marechal Carmona every year, will return in May 2025. Last year's edition attracted nearly a thousand people.

Festival Coala

For the second consecutive year, Festival Coala will take over the Hipódromo Manuel Possolo. Originating from Brazil, its roots are evident in the program, blending Portuguese music with tunes from PALOP (African countries of Portuguese language). Confirmed acts for this year include Liniker, Ney Matogrosso, Djoje, and Xande de Pilares. The festival attracted 20,000 attendees during its debut edition in 2024.

Festa da Criança

With over 60 free activities, Festa da Criança will take place on Children’s Day in 2025. Around 10,000 participants are expected.

Bossa Market
7 e 8 de Junho

The best of Brazilian culture will be highlighted at the Bossa Market, which returns to FIARTIL in Estoril. Last year, the event hosted more than 12,000 people who explored 120 brands, over 80 artists, and 20 activities.

Semana do Município
7 a 13 de Junho

Cascais celebrations, including Semana do Município and the Santo António Procession, will feature concerts by Quim Barreiros, Rosinha, and the tribute band "Para Sempre Marco," a tribute to Marco Paulo.

Espanto - Festival Internacional de Filosofia

A debut event, Espanto will be an International Philosophy Festival bringing together over 40 speakers and 2,000 participants, with conversations also available for remote viewing.

Festival Internacional do Cavalo Lusitano

Another major equestrian event takes place at the end of June. The International Lusitano Horse Festival will feature around 250 horses and draw nearly 5,000 spectators daily. The festival will offer various competitions, training sessions, and equestrian shows.

Feira do Artesanato do Estoril - FIARTIL

The 60th edition of FIARTIL will take place this year, featuring 157 brands and 89 musical performances. The event is expected to be even bigger, remaining one of the most iconic in the Cascais municipality.

Ageas Cooljazz

With over two decades of history, Ageas Cooljazz returns to occupy the Hipódromo Manuel Possolo and Parque Marechal Carmona, with several concerts throughout July. Confirmed headliners include Seal, Benjamin Clementine, Masego, Gilsons, and Slow J. During the presentation, some of the names performing on the secondary stage, Cascais Jazz Sessions by Smooth FM, were also announced: Beatriz Nunes (12 July), Isabel Rato Quinteto (17 July), Bokor (23 July), and Razy (31 July).

The 13th edition of this aquatic event features six races and around 700 swimmers from 40 countries.

The biggest news of the day is Brazilian musician Seu Jorge, who will perform one of the year's major concerts at Hipódromo Manuel Possolo, in Cascais, on 16 August.

The Porsche Cup Brasil returns to the Autódromo do Estoril at the end of August. In 2024, the event was watched by one million people.

This is one of the most popular events of the year in the municipality. Every year, Cascais Bay fills with people wanting to see concerts by major names in Portuguese music. This year, there is only one certainty so far: Latte, who performed on the event's secondary stage, will open one of the main stage days. In total, there will be 30 performances and about 400,000 spectators, who will also be able to enjoy the gastronomy, crafts, and witness the Procissão da Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes, a fishing tradition that gave rise to the Festas do Mar.

Lumina

Cascais has announced the return of the Lumina light festival to the municipality. This will be the eighth edition of the event, which has hosted more than one and a half million visitors throughout its history.

Chefs on Fire

The iconic Chefs on Fire, which began in Cascais and has gained international recognition with various editions abroad (with more planned), will occupy an area of Parque Marechal Carmona and extend to the surroundings of Praia de Santa Marta. In 2025, there will be 18 chefs per day and an extra day called Corporate Day, dedicated to the business circuit.

This corporate football event brings together Portuguese teams, as well as teams from the United States, Brazil, and Uruguay. In total, around 1,500 participants will be divided into 33 teams.

Leadership Summit Portugal

After hosting over 30 speakers and nearly 850 participants last year (in addition to 50,000 online viewers), the Leadership Summit Portugal returns – with its special edition dedicated to youth, called Leadership Next Gen, scheduled for 10 September.

The Rally de Lisboa will once again have a special stage at Cascais Marina. In total, the event will feature 22 foreign teams and is expected to attract more than 30,000 spectators, with an economic impact of around two million euros.

Conferências do Estoril
Outubro

The Estoril Conferences return next October, although the program has not yet been announced. As always, the diverse program will cover a variety of areas, from politics and the environment to technology and human rights. The event has already had an economic impact of over 11 million euros.

Since 2017, this event has become one of the most sought-after by car enthusiasts, especially for those who love classic automobiles. With a series of demonstrations and races, Estoril Classics is confirmed to return to the Autódromo do Estoril in October. In 2024, it hosted 336 teams and 504 drivers, and has gained significant international recognition, as seen by the 80 foreign journalists who covered the most recent edition of the event.

World Superbikes
10 a 12 de Outubro

This time, the Autódromo do Estoril will become the home of motorcycles. The World Superbikes has already attracted 30,000 spectators and 102 teams from 30 different countries. Broadcast by over 200 television channels worldwide, it is confirmed for three more editions.

The major triathlon event, which in Cascais has both a full and a half version, returns to the streets (and sea) of the town on October 18th. In 2024, over 4,500 athletes participated, with an average of two or three companions per athlete. It is one of the events with the greatest economic impact in Cascais, with an estimated 30 million euros. The Cascais IronMan is the third-largest event in the world circuit in terms of participants.

EDP Maratona de Lisboa

The marathon that connects Lisbon to Cascais will take place again in 2025. However, this time, the start will be in Carcavelos instead of the town centre. The route will head to Cabo Raso before returning towards Lisbon, along the iconic Avenida Marginal. This year, for the first time, a partnership with the famous London Marathon was established to help promote this national event. The organisers expect the number of registered athletes to nearly double, with an estimated 15,000 participants.

Aviation takes centre stage at the European Airline Training Symposium (EATS), an international convention dedicated to training in this field. It will return to the Centro Cultural e de Congressos do Estoril in November, with an estimated economic impact of more than three million euros

Although last Christmas is still fresh in memory, preparations for the next one are already underway. The Cascais Christmas Village, which has been a huge success at Parque Marechal Carmona, with numerous activities for both kids and adults, is confirmed to return with dates already set. In 2024, it welcomed 57,000 visitors.

Another motorsport event takes place at the Autódromo do Estoril. In 2024, the Cascais Caterham Championship hosted 68 teams and over 3,500 people.

Teatro Experimental de Cascais

In the year it celebrates 60 years of history (specifically on November 13th), Teatro Experimental de Cascais, which occupies Teatro Mirita Casimiro, will stage plays such as O Encoberto by Natália Correia; Eva Perón by Copi; and A Fera Amansada by William Shakespeare.

Fundação D. Luís I

The foundation that manages Cascais’ museums and monuments set a visitor record in 2024, welcoming over 285,000 people from around the world. In total, it manages 21 venues and developed around 1,500 events. This year, the municipality announced, there will be exhibitions and concerts dedicated to classical composers such as Mozart and Beethoven. Furthermore, the Câmara Municipal de Cascais revealed it will rename the Centro de Congressos do Estoril, also managed by Fundação D. Luís I, to Centro Cultural e de Congressos do Estoril.

Casino Estoril

In addition to gaming, Casino Estoril offers an extensive cultural programme throughout 2025, with concerts already confirmed by artists like Diogo Piçarra, Gypsy Kings, and Daniela Mercury. In 2024, the Salão Preto e Prata hosted over 103,000 people and 160 events. In 2025, the casino gardens will also host the Rally das Camélias and Liga Pro Skate.

Although the date is already clear, it is known that the celebrations welcoming 2026 will include a spectacular show with over 300 autonomous drones and a 10-minute fireworks display.
