Cascais has got new public bookshelves to catch up on your reading

The town council's initiative is all about boosting reading and embracing the circular economy. The deal is simple: bring a book, leave a book.

If you haven't spotted them yet, no worries, there's still time. Until December, you'll find public bookshelves in three parks across Cascais: Morais Park in Parede, Outeiro de Polima Urban Park in São Domingos de Rana, and Outeiro dos Cucos Urban Park in Alcabideche. This move, part of the 'Read and Reread Outdoors' project, aims to encourage reading on one hand and support the circular economy on the other.

"Get your reading up to date without spending a penny," wrote Miguel Pinto Luz, the current Vice President of Cascais Municipal Council, in a Facebook post on Sunday, 6th. "Bring a book, leave another," he added, referring to the project, which follows the international model of public libraries and was already available with its own shelf at São Domingos Municipal Library.

To take part, just pick out the books you'd like to take and leave others in an equivalent number, up to a maximum of four. But remember, all books should be in good condition, and school textbooks or technical manuals with outdated content won't be accepted.

If you'd rather donate books instead of exchanging them, it's recommended to send an email (bibliotecas@cm-cascais.pt), indicating what you'd like to donate. This way, you can arrange a day, time, and delivery location.
