The Casa das Histórias Paula Rego in Cascais is set to celebrate its 15th anniversary with the most comprehensive exhibition of the Portuguese artist's collection ever held. "The CHPR Collection in Dialogue" opens on October 31st.

“The exhibition fully embraces the museum’s mission by making its collection more accessible for an entire year, presenting a fresh and engaging interpretation that doesn’t necessarily follow a chronological order. Instead, the works are organised in a new dialogue that highlights the specificities of Rego’s artistic work and the various themes she focused on over six decades”, explains curator and programme coordinator, Catarina Alfaro.

This collection, donated by the artist herself, reflects her artistic and creative journey throughout her career. It includes paintings, drawings, a large-scale textile work, part of her documentary archive, and a painting donated by her family in 2023.

Cascais City Council remains committed to expanding the collection by acquiring works from the 1960s and 1970s. The exhibition "The CHPR Collection in Dialogue" features the most recent addition: the 1977 painting with collage "King Canute", purchased last year.

In addition to the new exhibition, from 31st October, the Casa das Histórias Paula Rego will launch the fourth edition of the Printmaking Workshop, offering a range of activities including different ateliers, workshops, technical courses, and open experimentation days, keeping the museum "dynamic and approachable".
