2025 marks the 51st birthday of 25 of April and the Municipality of Cascais has brought together its seven local brass bands to celebrate the day that not only brought us iconic songs but also the freedom to hear them.
As in previous years, the Bay (Praça 5 de Outubro, in front of the town hall) will be the place to see the parade of the seven Cascais brass all marching to the theme of freedom.
The military march "A life on the ocean wave" by Henry Russel kicks off the parade at 10.30 am, as it heads down Avenida D. Carlos. Once at Praça 5 de Outubro, the performances begin at 11.00 am, with the Grupo de Solidariedade Musical e Desportiva de Talaíde leading with "A Tourada" by Fernando Torso, followed by the Sociedade Musical e Sportiva Alvidense with "E Depois do Adeus" by Paulo de Carvalho.
The iconic "Grândola Vila Morena" by José Afonso will be performed by the Sociedade Recreativa Musical de Carcavelos, followed by "Somos Livres" by Ermelinda Duarte, performed by the Sociedade Musical União Paredense.
Zeca Afonso’s discography makes another appearance with "Venham Mais Cinco," played by the Grupo Recreativo e Dramático 1º Maio de Tires, while the Sociedade Familiar e Recreativa Malveira da Serra will perform "A Cantiga é uma Arma" by José Mário Branco. The show will conclude with the National Anthem, performed by the Sociedade de Instrução e Recreio de Janes e Malveira.
