Want to know where the locals love to go? In this exclusive series on Time Out Cape Town, ‘Local Intel’ taps into some of the city’s best-connected characters to unearth the corners you simply can’t miss in the Mother City.

Known for their infectious beats, lively stage performances, feel-good melodies and genre-blending sound, GoodLuck has become one of the best-loved bands in Cape Town. A staple of the Kirstenbosch Summer concerts, New Year’s Eve jols and the founders of their own summertime concert tour, GoodLuck – Ben Peters, Juliet Harding, and Tim Welsh—have carved out their own unique niche in South Africa’s electronic music landscape.

Blending elements of pop, dance and African-inspired rhythms, their irresistible grooves and catchy lyrics resonate on the dancefloor and the concert arena alike. Their live performances, driven by Harding’s infectious on-stage energy, have become legendary, and seen them fill venues from Europe to Asia and back to Cape Town.

And it’s the Mother City they (proudly) call home, so we asked Ben Peters and Juliet Harding (who are partners off stage too) for their favourite corners of Cape Town.

Where GoodLuck hang out in Cape Town

1. Salt

Salt is our favourite, favourite local restaurant/café in the Deep South. We are regulars at Salt at least once a week, or a few times a month. Our tip: try the peas, wow! Honestly, our own little food gem down the road in Muizenberg.

2. Surfing at Muizenberg Beach

There is no better beach than Muizenberg Beach for a good surf! Just on our doorstep, it’s a quick trip to destress and enjoy our very own surf paradise in our hometown!

3. Saigon, Cape Town

Ben and I absolutely love Vietnamese food, here at home and probably from touring Vietnam a few years back. Saigon in Cape Town is Vietnam right here in the Mother City. Their pho and dumplings are just mind-blowing… we crave them a lot!

4. Venus Beach tidal pools, Cape Point

Such a gem of our own little natural wonder in Cape Point. The best place for a spot of snorkelling and a cosy picnic on the rock formations. A great place to relax, swim and enjoy Cape Point’s beauty.

5. The Scone Shack, Cape Point

Can you tell we like our food? The Scone Shack in Cape Point is a rustic, hidden gem for the best scones in Cape Town! They are just delicious, and after a visit to Venus Beach Tidal Pool, a scone or three is a perfect end to a Cape Town must.

6. Oranjezicht City Farm Market

We love local… local food, business and people. The Oranjezicht Market in Cape Town is one of our faves. So many local foods and fresh produce, with a real local vibe. A weekend’s must, if we’re not gigging outside of Cape Town, with some of the best traders in the Cape.

7. Glencairn Beach

As you can see, we love the sea! Our favourite place for a sea swim is definitely Glencairn Beach in the South. It’s just on our doorstep and with a little road trip further south, we often visit for a nice sea dip and a relax on the beach.

8. Tintswalo Atlantic, Hout Bay

Another gem in the Mother City with a little more finesse. Tintswalo Atlantic has Incredible views of the Hout Bay harbour and scenery all with incredible food and service. Plus, a super nice sundowner setting too!

9. Jonkershoek, Stellenbosch

We are avid outdoor lovers, whether it’s hiking, walking, mountain biking, swimming or surfing. Our favourite place to get the blood pumping is definitely Jonkershoek Nature Reserve in Stellies. Absolutely beautiful walks and hikes in the best Cape Town setting. We are big mountain bikers and this reserve has some of the best trails for beginners and up.

10. GoodLuck HQ Studio, Cape Town

We’re a bit biased here, but our favourite place to create and make music is at our very own GoodLuck HQ and studio. Ben built this custom studio in the heart of Muizenberg with state-of-the-art audio and visual equipment that has been a creative base for many of our hit singles, but also a place to create for other artists and producers. We’ve also hosted some incredible events and launches in our own HQ space; it’s where we are most of the time and our home away from home in Cape Town.
