Cape Town's green spaces are calling, and there's never been a better 'thyme' to explore them.
National Gardens Week 2025 runs from March 10 – 16, offering free access to all botanical and zoological gardens across South Africa, including Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, one of Cape Town's most popular attractions.
Whether you're a budding botanist, a casual stroller, or just looking for a day out in the fresh air this is your chance to experience Mzansi's amazing biodiversity for mahala !
Tickets for Kirstenbosch usually cost R230 per person, discounted to R100 for South African and SADC residents. Children aged 4-17 would usually pay R40. That means a local family of four will save R280 for a garden visit during National Gardens Week.
And there are so many good reasons to visit. Take a leisurely walk along the famous Boomslang treetop walkway, wander the cool cobbled paths of the Dell, or – my favorite – find a spot on the upper lawns for fynbos and fine views. If you don't feel like a picnic, and if all that walking works up an appetite, make a pit stop at Moyo Restaurant, where you can enjoy a special two-course meal for R195 throughout March.
For book lovers, the Kirstenbosch Bookshop Courtyard Sale will feature a selection of botanical-themed books, kids' activities, and daily specials.
