'A love letter to Cape Town'.
That's how founder Lena Sönnichsen describes her new ice cream parlor Tadaa! , where the focus is all about artisanal methods and all-natural ice cream, made using local products while staying well clear of any artificial flavors, colorings or additives.
'I don't know what I love more, ice cream or Cape Town', says Sönnichsen. 'Bringing both together is a dream come true. I have loved ice cream my entire life and hope to create a place that celebrates the good things: childhood memories, shared connections, the delight of a small indulgence. Ice cream really is for everyone: a small moment that brings so much joy.'
And there's certainly a flavor for everyone at Tadaa! Expect up to 24 different flavors on offer, from the traditional to the inventive.
Vanilla, hazelnut, pistachio, and chocolate cater for the classics – and are all made using natural ingredients – but if you're feeling adventurous you can also look out for the likes of Vietnamese coffee with ribbons of sweetened condensed milk, or marzipan pear with thick chunks of real marzipan. Blueberry sorbet swirled with mascarpone ice cream and pieces of meringue is sure to be a hit, while vegans are taken care of with both intense fruit sorbets and creamy nut and chocolate-based concoctions.
You'll find Tadaa! at 17 Kloof Street in Gardens. Scooping starts at 1 pm and stays open until 9 pm or later, seven days a week. Expect to pay R45 for a single scoop, R30 for a smaller 'Almost Scoop' and R150 for the 600ml Take-Home Tubes.
