Dining out certainly isn’t getting any cheaper, but when dinner will set you back a cool R15 000 – that’s per person, by the way – you know you’re in for something special.

And when it’s chef Peter Tempelhoff behind the pass, perhaps it’s worth the spend.

You’ll know Tempelhoff as the culinary creator behind both Ramenhead and Sushiya at the Time Out Market Cape Town, but for this once-off dinner, he’ll be whipping up a different dining experience altogether.

For starters, you’ll be dining with altitude. This unique culinary experience takes place atop Cape Town's iconic Table Mountain, about a kilometre above sea level, combining high-altitude world-class dining with a very worthy cause: conservation.

Organised by the award-winning FYN restaurant and the Kariega Foundation, this exclusive dinner aims to raise awareness and funds for the preservation of South Africa's biodiversity.

The once-off event – on December 3, 2024 – starts at sunset on Table Mountain, with diners whisked to the summit by cable car to begin with champagne, canapés and live music with a backdrop of city views.

Then step inside for a six-course dinner prepared by FYN’s celebrated chefs, Peter Tempelhoff and Ashley Moss. Known for their innovative style of Afro-Asian cooking, the pair will fuse the finest South African produce with precise Japanese culinary techniques.

Each of the six courses will be accompanied by a selection of premium South African wines and Japanese saké, paired by FYN’s beverage director, Jennifer Hugé. Tempelhoff, a member of the Relais & Châteaux World Culinary Council, will lead the evening's dining experience.

FYN, which was established in 2018, has garnered global acclaim for its unique dining philosophy. The restaurant balances the richness of Southern African ingredients with the disciplined methods of Japanese cuisine. In 2023, FYN was recognised with the prestigious Flor de Caña Sustainable Restaurant Award, and in 2024 it ranked 60th on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. The restaurant is also Africa’s first and only standalone establishment to be inducted into the exclusive Relais & Châteaux association.

This memorable dinner atop Cape Town’s mountainous icon promises a memorable culinary outing, all while raising funds for conservation through the Kariega Foundation.
