Six years after Billy Flynn and Roxie Hart brought that ol’ razzle-dazzle to the Mother City, the musical CHICAGO returns to Cape Town for another run at the Artscape theatre.
“CHICAGO is one of the most successful productions ever staged in South Africa,” says Hazel Feldman, CHICAGO’s South African Producer. “From its unique Bob Fosse choreography to its sizzling score, seductive costumes and intriguing plot with performances by a highly talented all South African cast, CHICAGO is not to be missed!”
The winner of six Tonys, two Oliviers, one Grammy, two Baftas and six Academy Awards, CHICAGO is the longest-running musical revival, and the second longest-running musical in Broadway history… now in its 28th year!
And what a tale it has to tell.
CHICAGO was created in 1975, based on a 1926 Broadway play written by Maurine Dallas Watkins, a journalist from the Chicago Tribune who had covered the trials of two women accused of killing their lovers while under the dangerous influence of drink… and jazz!
On stage, a nightclub singer, a double-murderess, a smooth-talking lawyer and a cell block of sin set the scene for classic show-stopping songs including ‘All that Jazz’, ‘Cell Block Tango’ and ‘Mister Cellophane’. As the cast will remind you, there’s nothing like CHICAGO!
This much-loved musical returns to Cape Town’s Artscape from August 27 to September 28, 2025, before moving north to Montecasino’s Teatro in Johannesburg.
Tickets are on sale at Ticketmaster.co.za, and you won’t want to miss the Early Bird special: a 20 percent discount across all price categories for bookings made during March 2025. The special is valid only for performances at Artscape on August 27, 28 and 29.
