Looking for a stylish place to stay in the Cape Winelands? The iconic Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West has officially reopened as the first Tribute Portfolio property in South Africa.

Tribute Portfolio forms part of Marriott Bonvoy's collection of independent hotels, and with upwards of 150 hotels across nearly 30 countries appeals to travelers who value independent stays and local connections. From boutique resorts like Ermita in Cartagena to city gems like The Vagabond Club in Singapore, each hotel in the collection embraces its own unique character and community spirit.

That's certainly the case at Lord Charles Hotel. From the outside, the hotel still exudes a sense of classic charm, but step indoors and there's a healthy dose of contemporary Winelands style. A 2022 makeover brought in bold local artworks, contemporary African motifs, and interiors inspired by Lord Charles Somerset himself; the man who gave the town its name and its first public library.

The 198 guest rooms blend an aesthetic of English-country-garden-meets-modern-retreat, with plush beds and private balconies overlooking the Helderberg mountains or manicured gardens.

But what's a Cape Winelands hotel without a little indulgence? Foodies can fuel up at The Garden Terrace for breakfast, or settle into the revamped La Vigna for fresh farm-to-table fare. For more laid-back vibes, the St. Andrews Pub pours pints and serves up hearty fare.

And while it's a great option for a weekend escape in the Winelands, The Lord Charles is also conference-central, with 11 meeting spaces and room for up to 500 delegates. Work or play, you won't be sorry with a stay at Lord Charles Hotel.
