Transvaal Africa.
With its echoes of colonialism and the apartheid era, it’s perhaps a curious name for a Zimbabwean company invested in agriculture, construction and logistics. But by the end of 2025, this may also be the latest airline connecting Cape Town to Zimbabwe.
That comes as Transvaal Africa has secured an Air Services permit, with ambitions to launch regional routes out of both the Zimbabwean capital of Harare and the tourist hotspot of Victoria Falls.
According to TravelNews , Transvaal Africa aims to lease three Boeing aircraft and have the first flights take off in the last three months of the year. While the focus will initially be on key regional services connecting Harare to cities including Johannesburg and Dar es Salaam, Transvaal Afica CEO Patson Moyo also has ambitions to launch long-haul routes to Europe, Asia and the Middle East, as well as charter flights to Cape Town.
And there is certainly demand. In December 2024 Proflight Zambia launched a brand-new route connecting Cape Town to Livingstone, on the Zambian side of the Falls, while airlines including Airlink and Kenya Airways already link Cape Town to ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’.
