Travellers jetting in from Europe for a little summer sun – or locals heading to Europe for a wintry break – can look forward to flying in impressive levels of comfort, as German airline Lufthansa brings its impressive new Allegris cabins to Cape Town.

Lufthansa launched Allegris in May 2024, and this week announced that its new Allegris cabins will feature on A350 flights between Cape Town and Munich from the end of October 2024.

Lufthansa has spent north of €2-billion on its new ‘Allegris’ product overhaul, progressively revamping all four travel classes on board its long-haul aircraft. So even if you’re not forking out for Business or First you’re still in for a little extra comfort.

But it’s up at the sharp end where the new product really shines, with Lufthansa’s impressive new First Class ‘Suite Plus’ delivering previously unthinkable levels of luxury and privacy.

That comes thanks to the floor-to-ceiling walls and a closing door, creating your own hotel room in the sky. There’s a large dining table and two one-metre-wide seats, creating a double cabin with lie-flat beds and perfect privacy. There are plenty of more subtle upgrades too, from improved storage space and bespoke service, to the ability to independently heat or cool the seats, independent from the rest of the aircraft!

If First Class is going to burn the holiday budget too much, look to the new Allegris Business Class seats, which will now offer sliding privacy walls, additional storage, a super-sharp 27-inch screen and an in-seat mini-bar so there’s no ringing the cabin crew for a refill!

The Allegris Business seats are available in six configurations, with a variety of seats offering extended beds, space for a baby bassinet or seats with additional workspace. You’ll pay a little extra t reserve anything other than the ‘Classic’ seat though.

Happily, Allegris will also see an overhaul of the airline’s Premium Economy and Economy cabins.

Economy Class seats will come with a larger seat pitch – now 79 centimeters – and all seats will be fitted with tablet holders and USB ports. Premium Econmy also gets an upgrade, with more contemporary seats fitted in a hardshell design, meaning the seat in front of you can’t recline into your personal space. Seat pitch goes up to 99 centimeters, and the personal centre armrest comes with wireless charging for mobile devices.
