Just days before Steve Hofmeyr was set to take to the stage at Cape Town's DHL Stadium for his IKOON gig, it has been announced that the show has been postponed.

Hofmeyr, who has seen much controversy follow him over the years, was due to headline a show celebrating his 60th birthday alongside Juanita du Plessis, Karlien van Jaarsveld, Bobby van Jaarsveld, Nadine, Kurt Darren and Bok van Blerk.

However, a mere 8,000 tickets had been sold at the time of the postponement, leaving Hofmeyr feeling "thoroughly sick with disappointment".

"As with most concerts, I am at the mercy of the promoters' cashbook, and if it doesn't work out, there's little I can do about it," he wrote on social media.

With a capacity of 55,000, those 8,000 fans would have filled a fraction of the stadium, leading promoters to pull the plug on proceedings.

Cool Concerts, the organisers of the event, released a statement following the news to explain why the decision was made.

"As Cool Concerts, we were convinced that we would have a good turnout in the stadium due to the absence of big Afrikaans shows in Cape Town," the statement read, according to News24.

"We simply cannot host the concert for the number of fans who purchased tickets in a stadium format. We have already contacted all the role players, and we will relaunch the marketing campaign in the run-up to a new date.

"With Afrikaans is Groot and Krone not being presented in Cape Town, this is the last attempt at a major Afrikaans concert in Cape Town."

While this will disappoint those who purchased tickets, we'd like to remind you all that you can still have an amazing time in Cape Town on 29 March. Check out some of our guides below of the best things to do, see and eat in Cape Town...
