The sun is set to shine on Saturday, just in time for this month’s Kuier@TheCastle, the Cape Town CBD’s largest monthly family-friendly creative and lifestyle event.

And, in honour of Women's Month, this Saturday, August 31 will see a special edition of Kuier@TheCastle set up in the historic Castle precinct, showcasing dozens of local female designers and craft artisans.

Kuier@TheCastle is an initiative of the Craft + Design Institute (CDI), in collaboration with the Castle of Good Hope, and has become a must-visit event for locals and visitors in Cape Town. With something for the whole family, it’s become an event known for showcasing the creativity of local artisans, designers and creators, alongside a range of creative workshops.

Workshops on offer for the August event include: Discover the trending art of crochet; A micro-mosaic jewellery workshop; Make your own painted tote bag workshop; A tatting & beadwork workshop to craft your own gorgeous earrings; A self-portrait drawing workshop; A creative candle workshop, and a workshop which explores tufting where you can create your own personalised item. Workshops should be booked in advance via Quicket.

Renowned South African ceramist John Bauer also hosts an insightful talk and tour of the Iziko Ceramic Museum in the afternoon, and local designer Thabo Makhetha will host two fashion shows (12 pm and 1.30 pm), while the lively Best Thing Ever pop-up market returns with local creatives from across Cape Town.

Live music and a range of food stalls complete the festive picture, while visitors to Kuier@TheCastle also enjoy access to all the Castle’s museums throughout the day.

Kuier@TheCastle runs from 10 am – 4 pm on Saturday, August 31. Entry for adults is R30, children and pensioners R15. Children under-seven enter for free. Secure free parking via the Darling Street entrance to the Castle.
