R1310.

That’s what you’ll have to fork out if you want the worst seat in the house at the GrandArena at GrandWest, when British singer STING returns to Cape Town in March next year.

STING has long been a favourite with Cape Town audiences (I first saw him perform here in the early-90s), and in March 2025 returns to the city with his ‘STING 3.0’ Tour. Joined on stage by guitarist and longtime collaborator Dominic Miller, as well as acclaimed drummer Chris Maas, STING will ‘perform the most electrifying hits from his timeless discography’ say promoters Big Concerts.

But for the pleasure, you should get set to pay dearly when tickets go on sale at 9 am on Friday, September 13. This time around you should be afraid of Friday the 13th!

While his 2023 tour – ‘My Songs’ – saw tickets at GrandWest start from R800, this time around you’ll pay R1310 per seat for a ‘nosebleed’ seat up on the Mezzanine level. That’s a 63% hike on the 2023 prices.

One step down on the back rows of the retractable seating, ticket prices jump to between R1935 and R2275. For the front rows on the prime sections left and right of the stage, expect to pay R3165.

That is still ‘cheap’ compared to what you’ll pay down on the floor though. In the sought-after block F, seats around the middle are going (available at the time of writing) for R3690, while a front-row seat will set you back R4740.

But, it could be worse: tickets for STING’s series of shows in Toronto this week start at R3000 for seats where you’ll need binoculars to see the man on stage. If you wanted to catch him at the Brooklyn Paramount in October you’re looking at around R7000 a ticket. So perhaps we should count ourselves lucky!

And with tickets already on sale through the Discovery Bank pre-sale, it appears Capetonians simply can’t get enough of STING. About two-thirds of the arena, including many of the most-expensive seats, are already sold out.

That’s bad news for those waiting for tickets to go on general sale Friday morning, but does mean there’s almost certainly a second show waiting in the wings. Start breaking open the piggy bank.

The 'STING 3.0' Tour plays at the Grand Arena, GrandWest in Cape Town on March 25, 2025. Tickets via www.ticketmaster.co.za.

[UPDATE 17/09: as predicted above, an additional Sting 3.0 concert is now confirmed for March 26, 2025 at the Grand Arena, GrandWest]
